Sa'ed Atshan

Sa'ed Atshan - Author and Professor at Swarthmore College

Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sa'ed Atshan is an associate professor of peace and conflict studies and anthropology at Swarthmore College, where he also serves as chair of the department of peace and conflict studies.

Previously, Sa'ed Atshan served as an associate professor of anthropology at Emory University. Earlier in his career, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University.

Sa'ed Atshan earned a bachelor of arts from Swarthmore College, where he majored in political science and Middle Eastern studies. He then earned a master’s of public policy and a master’s of arts in social anthropology from Harvard University, where he also received a Ph.D. in anthropology and Middle Eastern studies. He has written several books, including Queer Palestine and the Empire of Critique and The Moral Triangle: Germans, Israelis, Palestinians. His co-edited volume, Reel Gender: Palestinian and Israeli Cinema, was published in 2022.
